More Dog Information

Our bay (Kikowhakarere) has no current dog restrictions for dogs on it – this means your dog can be on the beach at any time on or off-lead.

However, across Coromandel restrictions do apply on where you have your pets at certain times – some beaches don’t allow pets on beach during day time hours. Please familarise yourself with Thames Coromandel District dog rules here.

Want to holiday during peak periods? Maybe find a local pet sitter to look after your furry friend. Although there is nothing in Coromandel town – en route there are some options to consider to looking after your pets:

THAMES AREA

  • Waitakaruru Boarding Kennels & Cattery (07 867 3344)
  • Woof Woof Ranch (027 554 4661)
  • Playful Paws Pet Lodge (0274 158 209)

WHITIANGA AREA

  • Shine Canine & Shine Pets (027 360 4870)
  • Paradise Pets Whitianga (07 260 5172)

or you may wish to try a service like Kiwi House Sitters or Pawshake.

Here’s a quick list of what we recommend to bring with you camping:-

  1. Bring something to keep your pet cool and cover like a cheap gazebo or tent – usually, you will be camping in summer – so the heat is high, and the sun is strong.
  2. Keep the pets hydrated with a decent water bowl to keep them warm during your stay.
  3. Ensure you pack your companion’s collar & lead – they might be used to free-ranging at home, in the park your pet must be on a lead.
  4. Poop bags – be a tidy Kiwi and respect other guests by tidying up their mess!
  5. Dog registration tag is up to date – during peak times, our local council do enforce dog rules, ensure your registration is on the pet and up to date to save nasty fines!
  6. Consider pet sunscreen – slip, slop, slap.
  7. Don’t forget the treats for your pets – lets be honest, they are on holiday too!

Each TOP 10 is independently owned and operated, some lease lands from councils that specifically don’t allow pets so each park is unique by their rules.
